Folks,

My '89 Westy goes to the body shop for a repaint on Monday.  Having bought
Evon that new Beetle a few months ago I've come to the decision that I'll be
keeping my Westy for some time (both for financial reasons and because there
really isn't much I'd rather drive anyway), so I've decided to put some
money into getting it brought back to almost like-new condition.

Anyway, there is a seal that is missing on my westy, and VW tells me it is
no longer available.  It appears that only later model Vanagons had one,
since my '85 (and other earlier models) do not have a seal there. This seal
goes on the body just forward of the drivers door opening, not on the door
itself.  If you look at the front door, it is sort of shaped like this:

At the front edge of the drivers door, where it goes verticle (below the
vent wing area) is a rubber seal attached to the body, that seals the gap
between the door seal and the body.  My distributor lists the one above it
(parallel to the vent wing edge) but not the one on the verticle section.
I'd love to find one of these off of a junker (or find out if anyone has had
success in getting a new one) in time to have it replaced during the body
work.  If anyone has a parts van with one of these that they could
sell/trade me, I'd really appreciate it.
