Subject: Best Tires for '90 Sychro Westfalia
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

I am in the process of buying a '90 Syncro Westfalia....and new tires for it.

It had new Michelin MX T's (205 70 14) which were good under most conditions except a quick lane change at highway speeds (felt like the rear of the bus arrived in the next lane 2 seconds later than the front!).

BUT...I am interested in getting Mud and Snow (M+S) rated tires as I live in California, drive to the mountains in the winter, and there is a specific chain control level (R2) which allows 4wd's with M+S tires through without chains. It is also my understanding that the Highway Patrol USUALLY lets through "All Season" rated tires as well.

All this said, I am looking seriously at the Michelin LT-X M+S (195 75 14). It is "6 ply" tire that is rated at 1435lb/per tire at max 50psi. This load carrying capacity adds up to 5740 lbs -- versus my Sychros gross vehicle weight of 5512bs. I have driven another sychro with these on it and it drove great-- without the lane change problem.

Has anyone had any experience with the Michelin LT-X (M+S)on SYchros? Does the load rating seem high enough? Has anyone with MX-T's had that lane change type difficulty? Anyone had any experience with a relatively new Michelin tire called "Agilis?"

Any other significantly AWESOME tire I should check out before I buy these?

Thank you in advance for your time and comments.
