John: I found the VW lists - and their virtually unanamous condemnation of GEX - about 4 or 5 days AFTER I ordered the GEX engine. (Sob!!) I was thinking that maybe the rap on GEX wasn't necessarily correct after having a trouble-free 2 and a half years with it in the car, but I'm changing my tune. This engine was properly broken in, had all cooling tin, thermostat, flaps, etc., regular oil changes with the multi-weight oil spec'd by GEX and yet it broke after only about 28k miles. I'll try and post my findings once I get the engine out of the car (may be a while since I've got to get the other engine in and running OK) but, based only on my own experience, STAY AWAY FROM GEX!!!.
