Leif, I had the same problem, and found an excellent replacement at a local auto paint and body supply store. It's a retaining clip, just a bit larger than VW used, but made so that it actually holds better. The company is Au-ve-co products, #14380, (8133-50-022). They sell for about 60 cents each.
