NO. WRONG OIL.

The performance improvement is due to two factors...First, the oil pump isn't having to work as hard because more of this super thin oil is squirting out of the bearings; the "hydraulic resistance" is less. Second, the thinner oil is easier to "splash around in". Not to say that oil just splashes around in your motor, but the parts that ride on the film of the oil are not fighting a thick film like honey they are enjoying a thin film, like WD-40, and thin oil doesn't tend to create "fans" of oil hanging off the spinning crank and other spinning parts, so it doesn't have to fight that resistance.

The bummer part, is that in most parts of this country in the summer, 5w30 (non-syntheric) will get REAL thin when hot, and allow metal to metal contact, and your motor will soon be with Andrew, the angel of Death from Touched By An Angel.

Just put 5W30 in my 84 vanagon ---- saw a post this morning that talked about burning out bearings (oil to thin???) but was too quick on the delete key. Is this oil OK??? --- I'm leaving on a long trip Saturday and am wondering if I should change to something else before I go. (I swear I noticed a performance improvement too --- but I sure don't want to risk damaging the engine)) Thanks, Doug 84 Westy
