Well, I'd never do this to a British car! (I've had four, and some of them would die going through a puddle). But I've never had a problem over the years with the SAAB, Volvo, Acura or Mazda (avoiding a few spots or covering them up). On the VW, I've treaded more cautiously, though--sponge rather than spray--since I'm more wary of the electrical system. The main point is that simple green seems to be at least as effective as those harsh GUNK-type cleaners and a whole lot more user-friendly (and earth-friendly too).
