These can be a pig.  Douse with penetrant. Get a tiny open end wrench that
will fit over the cable but is smaller than the ball.  Place it against the
ball.  grip the cable with a vice grip.  Place a screw driver between vice
grip and wrench and pry.  The new one will go on more easily.
