You probably won't get the trans fwd. far enough to work with the clutch. (I use to do 2WD Subarus that way, clutch in and out in 45 minutes!) IMO, it is definitely worth the extra time/hassle to remove them, as it's an excellent time to inspect and repack the all CV's with grease. A lot less skinned knuckles, too!!
