Fred, Putting a hole in your CV is not a good idea. If you must, at least clean the area and dab some rubber cement or other type of sealer to cover the holes.

The CVs will fling the grease around inside the boot, and it will come out the holes even if they are pin sized. I tried this trick on my '74 when the CV started to clatter on a camping trip. I tried to seal up the holes, but I still had grease coming out as I drove.
