Subject: Quantum Syncro
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hello all,

I know this is a bit off of the list topic but there is no list for the Quantum and after all it is still a syncro. Here is my question. I have owned the car for almost two years and have put about 50K on it with very little trouble except for the rear tires. For some unknown reason the inner edge of my rear tires wears very rapidly in a very odd manner, it is basically a notch that is cut into the inner most edge. Just as a bit of info, when I got the car one of the rear springs was broken so I bit the bullet and bought two from VW and replaced them (I sure wish that I had been on this list then $$$).

This situation is such that the outer edge will have basically new tread while the inner edge gets worn to the cords and then goes flat. I have gone through three pairs of rear tires in these 50K. My first thought was that the rear was out of alignment. Well, after going to a couple of different places I was told that you can not do a rear alignment on the Quantum and that all of the components in the rear-end appear to be in great shape. Does anyone out there have a similar experience or an idea of how to fix this? I am beginning to go crazy. I guess if it gets bad enough I can just give up and put the 5 cyl. in the vanagon (but then my wife would be without a car and things would be bad). Please help.

Thanks John jrdorn@bellsouth.net
