Subject: CV GREASE?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi Volks,

I'm about to grease the cv joints. Bentley says use "G-6.3" Conventional wisdom says to use a moly base grease. I checked several FLAPS and none knew the Molybdenum Disulfide concentration of any of their "cv joint" compounds. I went to an oil distributor and got a couple tubes of Moly Grease EP (Chevron brand). It says it's a 3% moly disulfide compound. If anyone knows a good reason this stuff won't work PLEASE let me know. BTW, why is moly grease spec'd for cv joints anyway? Does it have to do with lubricity, or...? What IS G-6.3?

Any and all advice will be appreciated. BTW, I'm going to use the needle to inject it through the boot. Never taken a axle off a vanagon before, but the outboards look difficult to put a wrench on.

TIA. Fred 89 Westy
