I put a 50-watt non-halogen bulb in a few years ago, and a couple months later I spent several hours with a hot-air gun and sticky foam rebuilding the tail light assembly which had melted and warped considerably. Just something to think about -- I don't know how much heat the halogens produce compared to the regular, though I suspect it's similar.

Incidentally, I think I still have one of those bulbs, if someone wants it :)

BTW I have installed a regular-wattage halogen with the backup beeper and it works great. Noticeable from outside but not the industrial-strength stick-a-fork-in-your-ear.
