>A good welding shop should be able to repair it, but $21 for a new one isn't >all that bad either! My local VW dealer gets emergency parts next day on >their daily shop order, what's up with your dealer? > I tried welding mine, but the metal is thick enough that it's difficult to get enough penetration, and as a result, it cracked again. I would have been far ahead of the game to simply replace the bugger. Besides, the new one is updated in some way (thicker maybe?) and uses a new pinch bolt with a higher torque spec, which is supposed to prevent this problem from happening again.
