My parents have 260k miles on thier original clutch in thier '85 Jetta diesel (original motor too!). It has never been babied in any way. It has survived my Mom's terrible shifting habits (she always shifts too early) and is now owned by my brother (can you say Hot Rod?). I envision my 1 1/2 year old daughter learning how to drive in this car :)

It should be noted that the clutch setup for the Jetta/Rabbit is totally different than that of the Vanagon/bus/beetle so it is not really a fair comparison. Ken Wilford Van-Again John 3:16
