Hi Ken, I have used the 3 wire o2 sensor for 88 3.8 tarus on a 2.1L in a bind and it worked well. I think any 3 wire o2 will work ok. They need to be the kind that live before the cat. Some new cars have O2 sensors that live after the cat. They are different. You will need to chop off the connectors and solder the vw connectors. The white wires are the heater voltage no polarity, and the black one is the o2 signal to the ecu. napa here has the generic bosch 3 wire or can order the standard vanagon o2 sensor. imho proper solder connections will have less or no more loss than a factory crimp. Use a western union type wire splice before you solder. Someone else on the list can explain this splice in words better than I. Use shrink tubing or some 3m / scotch super 33 electric tape to keep out the weather and for proper insulation. Take care how where you run the o2 heater wires. They are not fused and can eat up your fuel injection cable if you get a short in them.

Darrell
