I simply do not know.

I have about four VCs here so I plan to to take them all out and test them by various means that have already been discussed (color of fluid, torque cold, torque hot, etc.).

These tests won't tell much about the proper test with the VC when it is installed inside the vehicle.

I think the Jim Davis test is probably correct if it is the one about seeing if the VC can handle an idle condition without pulling the car forward. But it doesn't tell you how the VC performs after it has heated up, so a highway drive 2nd test seems in order.

I think the bottom line is that possibly all USA VCs have viscous fluid that is too viscous and that the lighter weight fluid is indicated, even for us off-roaderers. Can you imagine the uproar if we sent out an email to all owners of 4x4 vanagons in the USA and told them they should get their VC fluid changed or risk destroying their transmissions?
