Yup -- American diesel fuel is much more "sooty" than European diesel. One unfortunatel result of this is we here in North America won't be getting any of the advanced TDi engines (e.g variable-vane turbo) that they have over there -- we only get the 4-cylinder 90hp TDi.

I use Mobil Delvac 1 in my Passat TDi and I sure will be using it in my future TDi-powered Syncro. I intend on changing the oil every 7500 miles.
