Subject: Trouble in Turboland. or... drain line woe's Update

Hello Folks, Seems like there are a few differing ideas on the oil return line trouble. Most (and all the written refences I can find) are of the opinion that the return oil must be downhill all the way to the pan, with no low spots in the way.

Others think that since the turbo oil is under pressure from the engine that locating the return anywhere would suffice. I tend to agree with the first idea.

But I did find that the turbo housing can rotated to a degree so that input/output is not verticle. This elevates the output flange of the turbo and gives me a little more drop across the distance to the pan. The folks at Majestic turbo suggested this fix. Although thaey did not specify how far it could be moved and still supply proper oil to the bearing. I will call again tommorrow. If there is insuffient drainage from the turbo, the bearings will leak oil into the compressor and exhuast turbines. As well as inadequte cooling of the bearing.

The best I can get in my application with the oil level at engine off is about 1.25" drop from the turbo. It is gonna be tough to get an even drop from the turbo to the oil pan with the obstacles I need to go around while routing the pipe. Another fix is a scavenger pump. I am not ready to got that route yet

BTW did anyone understand Martin's reference with the water, bubbles and the straw. Thank you all for answering my question. I hope no one is offended that I have not responded individually. There is a lot of responses and I type for beans.

Thank you all agian

Turbo... sooner or later
