Subject: Ideas on installing E4-lights
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

About a month ago I bought a set of E4 driving lights from BusDepot. They seem fine but...

When I tried to install them the retaining rings would not hold them, they jump and dance in the ring. My impression is that the original lights have a wider rim lip all around which uses a deeper ring, the E4 rim is thinner (something from 3/8 the originals to 14 the E4). I have a couple of ideas including: getting a rubber bead I can put between the retaining ring and light rim or getting a set of replacement retaining rings and modify them to fit (snip, snip, try, snip, try, drill, try, drill, drill).

Ron at BD tells me that this doesn't seems to be a problem with similar lights he has sold, even to a co-worker who installed them without problems. What about the rest of you... anyone has done or attempted this modification.

Another story. I was looking around for replacement of the wheel covers since I had three different models on my Westfalia, mostly recycled by the roads. The last one I put on was found on the beach, looks like someone was changing a tire and forgot it. Anyway, there was a sale at a local FLAP for out-of-stock generic replacement for 19.95 a set of 4, there was one model similar to the MBenz (eight spokes with five fake lugs) which I bought. In my neighborhood VW parts place, I got a set of 4 -1.5 inches VW wheel decals from EMPI for $1.50/set. Combined them all and voila... four custom made VW wheel covers for less than $22 and cool looking.

Now, is there anyone interested in two old model VW dish type (one deep, one shallow), one bike-spoke type, one flat Volkswagen type and one unknown type... pmail.
