About the Jiffly Lube flubup...
I know just the guy your talking about at JL!! I used to get my tires
rotated and balanced there every 5k when we lived in Allentown. One time
the Sears "tech" lifted Vinnie 5 feet in the air on the mudflap! Needless
to say I recommended that he reposition the lift to fix the error. After
that I always instructed them where to lift and watched as they hand
torqued the lugs!

As for the "we gotta drive it in" line we'd always get..  I'd say, "Well,
the trans is a bit finicky and if it gets tore out due to someone forcing a
gear selection, Sears will be responsible for the repair. And VW transaxles
aren't cheap at about $2500!" After saying that they would never deny me
from driving it in myself. And once you do it once they can hardly say no
in the future. Just say, "I always drive it in, see?" (show the previous
work orders to support)

Moral of the story, watch,watch,watch,nag,nag,nag. These are our babys and
we gotta keep the dark forces from taking them out of existence.
