Not even sure this fuel injected beast has valves and lifters, but the noise sounds like that... And it seems to have gotten worse over the past 10k miles or so. I have 105,000 miles on my 90 Westy Syncro though the P.O. claims to have towed it behind their motor home for about 20k (had tow hitch on the front when I bought it), so the engine may have only about 85,000 miles on it. On start up the noise is quite loud (click, clack, click, clack) for a few seconds. Then the noise reduces by about half, but still too loud. After driving it for several blocks... maybe a mile or so then then the noise is gone. I was using 20-50 dino oil. Now I have 0-50 Syntech with a pint of Napa lifter cleaner in there. The noise seems to go away sooner with the 0-50, but still sounds bad (as described above). Is this a problem? Solutions? Thanks Bill 90 Westy Syncro Lake Tahoe |
