Well, I have started this project but haven't had time to complete. Here are my thoughts on a kids hammock above the front vanagon seats: I got a upper cot mechanism out of a 73 VW Westy. Took off the folding hinges which left me with two rails and a canvas cot. Next I plan on supporting the rails and canvas but making a metal bar (one for each side) that goes from that plastic plug near the upper seatbelt shoulder support (the plastic plug unscrews to reveal a threaded nut welded inside the pillar), the metal bar will go across the door opening and mount on the windshield pillar similarly to the bay window cots (haven't decided how to do this yet, weld a bracket? bolt on a bracket?). On the metal bar will be slots to mount the canvas rails (rails will need to be cut shorter and a tab added on the ends). The only weak link here is if the windshield pillar can have a bracket mounted on it w/o damage the pillar. eric.henning@bailey.com 80 westy |
