So: by what make and model do you refer to your Westy when > having a salesman look up the appropriate part? Is it listed in parts books > as a "Westfalia", or do you tell them its a "Vanagon"? "Vanagon", because that's what the "car" portion of the vehicle is, and that's almost always all that matters at an auto parts store or garage. "Westfalia" is actually the name of the company that did the Vanagon camper conversion for VW; essentially, it identifies a Vanagon "options" package of non-"car" related stuff (pop-top, sink, etc.). I think the official VW name for the Vanagon-with-Westfalia-conversion model differs slightly in different years - for example, my '88 is officially a "Vanagon GL Camper". > Also, I noticed recently that the right-turn signal blinks twice as fast as > the left. Is this normal and I am only just realizing it, or is something > afoul? That's because your right-hand turn signal bulb is burnt out - the fast blink is to alert you to that fact. So, yes, it is normal, and yes, something is afoul. -Steven Sittser |
