Stomp harder on the brake! The Vanagon has a very low ratio of force amplification in the power brakes - only about 2 to 1 if I remember right. Other possible problems: 1/ Inside piston of the brake calipers often start sticking before outside. Flex in the rotor makes it looks as if the brakes still work, while they are only about 1/2 as effective. 2/ Anti-rattle plate missing. This one controls the force distribution on the pad. Worst consequences if missing on ATE/Teve's style calipers with the notched pistons. Mechanics don't understand what these are for and hence forget to put them back. 3/ Rear brake adjusters not working. These easily rust. /Martin -- Westy 1.9l Turbo Diesel Quantum 1.6l Turbo Diesel New and used parts for sale, gas and Diesel: http://www.cs.yale.edu/~jag/vw/forsale.html Martin Jagersand email: jag@cs.yale.edu Computer Science Department jag@cs.rochester.edu Yale University Slow down and visit the VW diesel Westy page: WWW: http://www.cs.rochester.edu/u/jag/vw ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
