I really cant say for sure, but I tried to yank the hand brake on my 88 Syncro in the middle of an empty snow-covered parking space once, and it took a 4-way.... Kinda interesting, and I had to almost pull the lever out of the floor to lock it. Put it all the opposite direction, locking the front wheels on snow or ice, the vc should have enough slack to keep it from locking the rear wheels too. If not, very serious situations could occur, so serious that any car manufacturer never could've released cars with vc systems on the road. If you've ever tried this situation in a 4wd vehicle that shifts in the front wheels manually, when on snow, you know it aint fun!! I almost disintegrated a Benz, driving a 'Zuki Samurai, with 4wd locked, and on icy snow. Not fun at all. I almost needed heart surgery after that.
