I am struggling with replacing some coolant hoses on a 1985 Vanagon and have found some useful information on the engine compartment hoses in the archives.

Unfortunately, I have not found much on the heater circuit. A lot of this appears to be replaceable with standard FLAPS heater hose, but one is giving me a problem. The feed for the heaters comes off the rear of the right head. The hose is formed with about a one inch diameter and a couple of bends, before reducing down to a smaller size and ending at the tee feeding the rear heater. Any suggestions for this one?

John,

I just replaced most of the heater hose circuit myself. While the rest of it was standard hose off the roll, this one I had to buy from VW and it was EXPENSIVE, even from Camelback VW in Scottsdale it was around $40. It was also not easy to identify from the diagram they have of the hose circuit. We had a hell of a time finding a part number on this.

I had another problem here too, the hose running to the heater valve in front posed a situation. The rest of the circuit works with 5/8" hose I guess, but the fitting for the heater valve is 1/2" I think. I had to make a shim out of a shaved off old hose to make the connection work.
