On the contrary; the politicians have learned VERY well how to keep happy the people who REALLY count; the first of which is, of course, themselves. As long as one harbors the opinion that government always tries to act in the best interest of all the people many of the things government does will make no sense. But if one looks at it from the point of view of the individual politician's desire to get in office and stay there even the most rediculous law suddenly makes sense. Politicians are no different from anyone else in their desire to promote and advance themselves. In other professions this is done by making a better or cheaper product and trying to convince people to buy it. The politician's product is POWER. The "product" is improved by increasing that power. The more power an individual politician has the more other's will seek the favor of the politician and the more that politician can charge for that favor in the form of campaign contributions and the like. As with any business the politician will concentrate on that section of the market that is able and willing to purchase the power he is selling and files those who cannot or will not purchase to the back of the line. Politicians are not evil in this, they are human and humans are like that. The Founding Fathers knew this and tried to limit the power wielded by the government; a politician cannot sell power he does not have. But unfortunately that attempt failed and what was ment to be a small corner store has instead become the largest mall in the world.
