Hi Lukas, I am in the process of converting my '82 NA 1.6L Vanagon to a 1.6L TD (from an '85 Quantum. It has comparable specs to the air-cooled engine in my '81, so I imagine it will be quite nice. Tranny's are an issue over here, we tend to get the low-geared ones that restrict the van to below 65 (or so I am told...). Watch out for that.
