the backup lights on my van are not working either. I believe it is the switch, located on the left side of the trans, opposite of where the shift linkage inserts. If my test is incorrect, please, someone let me know.....anyway, I pulled the two leads off the switch, put the trans in reverse and tested the switch for continuity and it failed, so I don't think the switch is closing when in reverse. Ordered one from Bus Depot for $4.50, and it looks easy to install. BTW, what are the bright backup bulbs you mentioned? 50w halogens??
