Well you do need a licence for this stuff. However you can become your own tech for $19.95 at http://www.epatest.org. Take the test using your favorite credit card and within an hour or so of an openbook test you too can be certified by the EPA and know everything about airconditioners :) Well at least enough to be dangerous.

This is OK if you have no problems with your system and it is just low on refrigerant. Anything more than that I would take it to a shop that knows what they are doing. Also always wear eye protection when working on A/C systems as they can blow up in your face. Ken Wilford Van-Again John 3:16
