The Syncro diff. lock is not as valuble as one may thing. I have a Syncro without it. It can be retro-fitted but the parts would be very expensive. I have done this in two vehicles, one was a 2 wheel drive Vanagon. The Syncro system works so well that almost every lock axle I have seen have been broke, or rusted in place. IMHO I would not give the axle lock much weight, when considering this vehicle.

I never used them except to demonstrate them to curious passengers. I always figured they were something you used _after_ you got stuck, and I never got stuck. On the other hand, the Syncro Westy is definitely more of an offroad vehicle than the Audi so... > > What do you think folks? > > Thanks! > > Tim King > Seattle, WA > > ...still shopping for that magic syncro westy. >
