Alternate scenario:

She thinks high price is obtainable. When it doesn't sell, it's His fault. His priorities are obviously out of line and She leaves.

I think I have the situation figured out with this van. He has dumped sooooo much $$$$ into it that his "other half" has had enough. The ultimatum of sell the van or lose me was given. By asking a really high price he is making an "honest attempt" at resolving the situation, but will not loose all the $$$$$ that he had invested if it does sell. The van will not sell, the "other half" sees the "honest attempt" and the owner maintains his relationship with his true love and the "other half".
