Subject: oil leak/dropping motor
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII

On a recent 5000klik(3000mi) an oil leak appeared towards the front?(between engine and tranny) of the engine. Definitely motor oil not tranny fluid. Added a quart to top up to full after discovering the leak during the first half of the trip.

Since that time it's only been necessary to add 1/4 of a quart. Appears to leak only while driving, however.

I'm assuming a leaky main seal(terminology?)between engine and tranny. Is there any other possible source for an oil leak in this area?

If in fact I do have to drop the motor what other work should I consider. The oil cooler comes to mind. Torque converter seal maybe?

Did an e-mail search of the archives with key words "oil leak". Over 900 matches but shows only first 100. Is there a way to access the other 800 or so?

Thanks in advance, Phil Menchions '89 Westy Torbay,NF Canada
