Subject: Fwd: Syncro Diff lock question!
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

I'm not a syncro guru, but every story I've heard about the value of the diff lock -- including my own limited experience -- has been about someone getting out of an fairly "extreme" situation (starting after stopping on a VERY steep hill, stuck in 3-4" of heavy gravel, plowing through 3-4" of wet snow at relatively high speed over mountain passes)........and they all had the same basic message: "(I hardly ever use it)......but MAN did it WORK when I needed it to!"

I am really glad I have a diff lock. Some situations I have gotten in (eg backing up a steep dirt road with trees close to the side so not much room for slipping off to the side) have convinced me of the value of being able to KNOW EXACTLY what the rear wheels can/are going to do . In a way I also see it like having a manual transmission: it gives you another important option in terms of having control over what the vehicle is doing.

OK, and I think this is also a big part of it: the diff lock gives me just a little more confidence that I have all the tools I need to go driving off into the unknown (desert roads, sandy lake shorelines, muddy dirt roads).....I just worry less :-)...and can explore more!
