Subject: possessed oil buzzer?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Yesterday after replacing the spark plug leads in my '87 Vanagon (that's ALL I did; one was arcing to the block causing the cylinder to cutout occassionally) I jumped into the van, pulled away ... and the oil light/buzzer tripped (the first time its every done this). Since it went around 2000rpm, I assume it was the high pressure switch that triggered it. Once it tripped it didn't go off, and it went on *every* time I exceeded 2000rpms.

Checked the oil, everything was OK. Temperature was fine ... in fact, everything seemed fine. I parked it and decided to worry about it tomorrow.

Today I got in, fired it up, took off and ... no buzzer. I ran it around town for about 10 minutes, including some interstate travel, getting the rpms up around 4000 several times ... nothing!

I parked it for about 10 minutes, then took off, and suddenly I get the buzzer again, right over 2000rpms. But this time it goes on for about 2 seconds, then goes off, even if I don't reduce the rpms. This pattern is repeated for the entire trip around town. Sometimes I can go several minutes without it going off, sometimes it'll go off several times in a single minute. However, on my way home tonight (starting off with the engine totally cold) it was silent the whole way (about a 15 minute drive). Weird.

Anybody have any thoughts as to what is going on here?
