I've come upon a convenient gray-water receptacle -- it's a polyethylene
gas can made by Blitz, their model 11810.  Holds 2  US gallons, 8
ounces,  Instead of the usual spout inverted into the can, it has an
extensible spout which just happens to be a snug fit into the inside of the
sink drain line.  It also has a vent that snaps open and shut, easier than
deciding whether the bloody vent cap is on tight enough.  Set it on the
ground under the drain, fit the spout and Bob's your uncle.

Of course it's gasoline red.  I painted it with gray primer, which appears
to be holding onto the can by good intentions.  And of course I have to rig
something to prevent my driving off without unrigging it.  But the price
was right, decent capacity, easy to empty etc.
