Subject: Syncro splash guards(?)

Dear Listees: Saw a syncro the other day with small black rubber or plastic "splash guards" bolted on the rear side of all four wheel wells. They appeared to be factory original, but I have never noticed them before (not many syncros around here). Questions--

Are they OEM standard equipment or optional?

Do they do a decent job of deflecting road spray and dirt from the side of the van? Would like to mount a set on my regular Westy.

Any guesses as to what a wrecking yard would want for a set?

TIA!!

Cary
