We have the original 1976 VW chrome hubcaps from our old bus on our current
Vanagon. These are the same hubcaps as the Bug (as far as I can tell) and
they fit just fine. If your have your wheels painted body color or white,
the chrome hubcaps look really sharp on the Vanagon.

These hub caps will fit the wheels, BUT will not fit over the center
axle......it sticks out too far (I think in the front).  If you compare the
Vanagon and bug hub cap you will see the Vanagon is about 1/2" wider.
