Subject:      Those damn door mirrors...
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;

It seems that it's just one little thing after another.

So far this summer I've replaced the ECU in my 84 Westy 1.9L (which was a little thing thanks to listmember Bill in Billings).

Now I need to replace the brake lines (all of them) and bleeder screws (completely rusted & seized) as well as replace rears shoes and front pads and calipers. Fair enough for a 15 year old vehicle in winter salt country.

But what really pi**ed me off was my passenger door mirror. Actually, both driver and passenger are in bad shape with peeling reflective backing and full length cracks running up the plastic housings.

On my last road trip the passengers mirror would flop down gradually, it would be shoved forward by a good tailwind, and generally hold it's position for no more than an hour.

When I got home I took the passenger mirror off and gave the spring retaining nut an couple of turns to restore stability. Sure enough the threaded stud sheared off. A close look at the remaining stump of the stud showed that the damn thing is made of white metal. I wonder how many other fittings (like the sliding door handle) are made of this crap.

To make my already long story shorter does anyone have a pair of mirrors in decent condition they would like to sell. If not the pair, than just the passenger ? Alternatively, has anyone tried a different style of mirror that can be bought at a FLAPS and gives you good coverage and doesn't require too much door butchery ?

TIA
