According to the diagram in my German manual, this wire is for the rear light, the wire for the rear fog light is supposed to be green with white striping. I found this wire on my previous Syncro (88), it was just laying inside the rubber boot at the left tail light connection plug. I haven't checked it on my 87 Syncro yet.
