Subject: Re: New Carver P4 Propane or rebuilt EBERSPACHER gasoline
Content-Type: text/plain

Everyone seems to love the Carver, and the consensus has been to avoid the Heaterman (he was banned from the Vanagon list, you know - look in the archives if you're curious). The safety of the old Eberspachers is also questionable. This isn't based on my personal experience, just what I've seen on the list.

I will add, though, that there is another alternative - a NEW Eberspacher. They run off your fuel supply - petrol or diesel - and have modern electronics and safety features. They also aren't cheap, but might be a good alternative for someone who didn't want to deal with propane - or didn't have a Westy. I ran across them doing research into engine preheaters for a non-VW diesel vehicle. There are plenty of US distributors - go to http://www.espar.com/ for more info. A company called Webasto also makes a similar product, but their North American presence is pretty much non-existent as far as I can tell. Except for the Heaterman, of course.
