Subject: Broken dipstick '84 1.9L

Sunday night the bottom part of my dipstick broke off when I was checking the oil. I have a new tube and stick on order from TBD, but what to do in the meantime. I know that my van uses about 0.5 qt 20W-50 every two hundred miles depending on how hot it is and how much highway driving I do.

Presumably, I can measure the oil depth in the crankcase by putting a rod down the fill tube. Does anyone know the correct depth for the correct oil level?

Also, has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you deal with the situation?

John Lauterbach
