I look at it as though the engine sits 5cm lower on the Syncro!

The 3" deck issue is to ensure that you have clearance for almost any thing you stick under there. There is a picture on my site of a 1984 Westfalia and how high the engine sits above the rear deck.

Why not mount it at a 50 degree angle? A few reasons actually, first, most engines will require part of the side wall to be modifed as the intake manifold will make contact with it. Second, mouting at 50 degrees requires a lot more expensive and obsolete parts to make the conversion happen (oil pan, motor mounts, engine support etc), . These are the three goals of our installation kit, inexpensive, retain the ability to return the van back to it's original state and use current parts where ever possible.
