I don't suppose anyone has these technical bulletins...?

Affected model: ALL Water cooled

Model years: ALL

Order number:90-92-03

Electrical System

Coolant Indicator LED is Flashing at Normal Temperatures

Affected model: ALL Water cooled

Model years: ALL

Order number: 90-87-03

Electrical System

Coolant Temperature Gauge Light flashes intermittently / continuously

And (possibly related):

Service Bulletin Number: 93-04 [I'm unsure of order # and group #; I got

this one online and it's not in my index]

Bulletin Sequence Number: 036

Date of Bulletin: 9311

NHTSA Item Number: SB035163

Make: VOLKSWAGEN TRUCK

Model: VANAGON

Year: ALL

Component: ENGINE:OTHER PARTS

Summary: REPLACING COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR. *TW

A brief summary of their contents would be greatly appreciated. My local VW of A claims they don't have them on their CD ROM--only newer bulletins. I know I can purchase them by calling 1-800-544-8021, and will if nobody has them. I have an index of VW service publications, so if you're looking for bulletin order numbers, let me know.

Why am I so obsessed with this little red light? When my looonnng

coolant hoses started leaking, my van lost a lot of coolant very

quickly, and the temperature went up nearly as rapidly. If I had been

negotiating directions (or dinner plans) with my wife, I might not have

noticed the blinking light and thus the temp gauge, and might have

damaged the engine. I have other coolant hoses & pipes that don't look

so great, but I have other repair work which I should do before I

replace them. And finally, because it blinks so often (even on startup

of a cold engine w/plenty of coolant in the expansion tank), I ignore my

blinking red light half the time--and my temp guage indicates low

anyhow, which makes on-the-road diagnosis difficult.
