Hi Steve:

I have the same van as you, and I just learned how. Here's what I was told to do, and what I did:

The problem is that there is no scale on the block anywhere to measure the angles against, unlike other cars.

This turns out not to be a problem....

Steps:

1 Connect power to the timing light from the power-out stud on the alternator; 2. Connect the signal lead to spark plug 1. That is the passenger-side plug, closest to the front of the van (closest to the firewall) 3. Observe notch on pulley, rotate distributor untill pulley notch is lined up to line or seam where the two case halves touch - that is the mark.

You are properly timed.
