Martin: $12,700 seems a little high for an '88 Westfalia with 144K miles and Non-Syncro. The ownership/records are a plus, but I think the van would have to be in fantastic condition to command that price. Your friend shouldn't worry much about the fabric, as the tops can be replaced for a modest (relative to the big picture) amount. If your "friend" has not shopped around much, he/she definitely should. Probably a third of the vans that I find for sale via the interenet (I too am looking) are in Northern California.
