Steve,

I was working on the tail lamps of an 84 GL today. The rear fog lamp socket is built into your tail lamp, but does not have the contact for power to the bulb. On top of this, the bulb hole in the lens portion of the light is too small to fit in the large 32 cp bulb and there is not any reflective material in the lens area.

You could easily cut the hole a little bigger to allow the bulb to fit in. The larger hole might allow you to install some tin foil into the back of the lens area for reflective purposes.

The answer to getting power to the bulb contact is to use a single filament replacement pig tail. I found some very nice ones at a NAPA store that had heavy wire and a good spring. You just drill a small hole in the back of the bulb socket (centered) and feed the pig tail wire through towards the front of the bus. Next, you install the bulb. I hope this makes sense to you. Print out these directions and take them out to the tail lamp.

I don't know the best way to get power back to the pig tail. You could splice it into the tail lamp circuit and have fog lamps all the time, or you could run a wire back from a switch.
