Dave, what I would do is get a used lever to get the car going, and then get a new one to replace if/when the used lever breaks. Why, you might ask? You know, your lever broke, my lever broke, and some other guy's lever broke. Don't you think there is a possibility the used lever you get will break too? I did, and that was my approach when dealing with this, so I got a new one. I paid about $80 for it a year ago, here in Norway. That was on my previous Syncro, so maybe I should check the lever on the Syncro I know own, and maybe get a new lever, and wait for the old to break. Remember, the Syncro and 4-speed shares lever, the 5-speed is different.
