I didn't miss the point, Eric, we just disagree <g>. I say that what's left is a bolt that has been intentionally made difficult to remove, just like the one-way screws in restrooms. There's nothing about that set of crummy sheetmetal brackets that needs any extra-special torque tolerance, and I'm not convinced that shear bolts would be the way to get it if there were -- too hard/expensive to make them to an exact spec, and plenty of other ways that don't involve having to drill the fool things out to remove them. You know, castellated nuts, torque+angle etc. But all these things are doing is holding the column up to a couple of bend-in-your-hand brackets coming from the top of the dashboard. Not exactly rocket science...
