I find it ironic that us vanagon owners could possibly slag another
manufacturer concerning reliability , my none westy vehicle is a '86 f-150
and I don't have to belong to a list to keep the thing alive. Add gas,
change oil, drive, period.  In our westies we have a compact well laid
out,underpowered, poor gas milage,character vehicle with an amazing build
quality that we whould not trade in for anything. But let's not delude
ourselves about it's reliability. I've never  contemplated swapping the
venerable old straight six in my ford for something made  in germany.  Jim's
rant.
